Why check certificate expiration?
TLS (Transport Layer Security) certificates have a set lifespan. Historically, certificates could be valid for up to 39 months, but major browsers (like Safari, Chrome, and Firefox) now require certificates to have a maximum validity period of just 398 days (about 13 months).
If a certificate expires, browsers will display a stark warning to visitors (e.g., "Your connection is not private"), which can severely impact your website's traffic, reputation, and revenue.
When should I renew?
- It is widely recommended to renew your TLS certificate at least 15 to 30 days before it expires.
