What is inside an ICO file?
A .ico file is actually a container format that can hold multiple images at different sizes and color depths. Historically, this allowed Windows and early web browsers to pick the most appropriate resolution for the screen or icon size being displayed.
Why inspect it?
A well-formed favicon.ico should contain at least a 16x16 and 32x32 image to accommodate different browser UI elements. Sometimes tools generate .ico files incorrectly, stuffing a single massive image or compressing it with unsupported BMP headers. This inspector allows you to extract and view every layer packed inside the container.
