What is DNS propagation?
When you change DNS records, recursive resolvers can continue returning an older cached answer until its TTL expires. Different resolvers may therefore show different answers for a period after a DNS change.
This tool performs a quick comparison using two major public recursive resolvers: Google Public DNS and Cloudflare. Matching answers are a useful signal, while different answers can reveal a caching or propagation difference worth investigating.
How long does propagation take?
There is no universal 24- or 48-hour propagation timer. In normal recursive DNS caching, the relevant factor is primarily the TTL of the previous record plus resolver behaviour. A change can appear quickly on one resolver while another legitimately retains the previous answer until its cached TTL expires.
